Cristina is a GDC registered Specialist in Periodontics since 2003. She qualified as a General Practitioner in 1992 from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Lisbon. She joined the Department of Biomaterials as a junior lecturer/researcher in response to her early interest in research and education. Concomitantly she built her own private practice dedicated to general dentistry.
During her early years in Practice, her special interest in Periodontology grew and led her to pursue a 3 year full-time post-graduate programme in Clinical Periodontology, with the distinguished Department of Periodontology ofthe Gothenburg University where she qualified as a Specialist Periodontist in 2002. Aiming at having an active academic career as well, she committed to research activities and completed her Masters Thesis in 2003 with the same Department, focusing on the effects of cigarette smoking on periodontal health in young individuals.
Having moved to the UK in October 2003, Cristina searched for what she believes to
be the “perfect combination” in her professional life: a committed clinical activity as a Periodontist and active involvement in Academia.
Since 2004 Cristina has been working as a Periodontist at the Carisbrooke Specialist Dental Centre in Leicester. During also 2004 she held a position of Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Periodontology at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. Later, in 2007, she co-development the postgraduate program “MSc in Clinical Periodontology” with the former Institute of Postgraduate DENTAL Education, now School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (UCLan-Preston) and is currently the Course Leader.
Cristina strongly believes in highly tailored “approaches” to periodontal treatment with focus on patient’s personality, individual problems and expectations. She is also very involved in the re-constructive/cosmetic aspects of periodontal(plastic) surgery, applied to both teeth and implants.
Cristina is passionate about teaching and she keeps herself busy nationally and internationally. During her free time, Cristina loves spending time with her young family, cooking and sports are old passions. Cristina and her family are enjoying the pleasures of British countryside living as they recently moved to Kibworth.
