Presentation and Poster Competition at Leicester Grammar School
3rd November 2013
On Tuesday 1st October members of the Carisbrooke Dental Team took part in an assembly for the Lower School students at Leicester Grammar School.
The theme of the assembly was ‘Healthy Smiles’. A presentation was delivered by Sally Payne which explained the importance of the following for Oral Health:
- A Healthy Balanced Diet
- Effective Brushing Technique
Using PowerPoint visual aids it was explained that by following simple advice regarding diet, brushing and using fluoride toothpaste the students could improve the health of their teeth and gums.
As part of the assembly we ran a poster competition. The brief was to design a poster aimed at ages 4-5 years, showing an oral health message or combination of Oral Health messages.
The standard of the posters was exceptionally good showing huge effort and a great understanding of the Oral Health message. Naturally this proved challenging when judging the entries and the whole dental team deliberated to finally agree on a winner from each of the three year groups.
The competition prizes were presented in an assembly on 29th October by our Specialist Orthodontist, Frances Mackay. Frances explained why each winning poster had been selected and presented each winner with a £50 Amazon gift voucher.
The winners were:
Year 6 – Sophia Kyriacou
Year 7 – Aran Lakhanpaul
Year 8 – Amie Gohil
The dental team also selected an overall winner from the three winning entries to receive an extra prize of an Electric toothbrush.
This prize was won by the Year 6 entry from Sophia Kyriacou
The winning posters are on display at Carisbrooke until the 29th of November.
We were delighted with the success of the presentation and poster competition and look forward to collaborating with the Leicester Grammar School on future projects
